South Korea Map Located in Eastern Asia, South Korea occupies the southern part of the Korean peninsula, while the northern part, that which borders China, forms the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

Geographically Korea is predominantly mountainous. A chain of mountains run along the entire length of the peninsula making up most of the landscape. The East Coast of South Korea is characterised by rocky highland while the West tends to be flatter.

The largest island, Jeju, lies off the southwest corner of the peninsula and has a land area of 1,825 square kilometers.
